Turkish authorities conduct major operations against illegal betting and fraud

Turkish law enforcement has launched several large-scale operations across multiple provinces to dismantle illegal betting, money laundering, and investment fraud networks.

A massive investigation coordinated by the Nevşehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, spanning 34 provinces, targeted illegal betting and organized crime. Following a seven-month technical investigation, authorities identified a transaction volume of approximately 20 billion lira involving shell companies and various bank accounts. The operation, which involved over 800 police officers, resulted in the arrest of 90 suspects. Authorities seized assets valued at approximately 1 billion lira, including real estate and movable property.

In a separate crackdown centered in Aydın and Batman, gendarmerie and police investigated illegal betting activities. Investigations into bank accounts linked to these activities revealed a transaction volume of 7.434 billion lira. In the Aydın-centered operation covering 14 provinces, 34 suspects were arrested, and judicial control was applied to four others. Authorities also placed precautionary measures on 467 bank accounts and four cryptocurrency accounts.

Additionally, operations in Konya and Samsun targeted investment fraud. In Konya, the “Paravan-2” operation targeted 29 suspects accused of using fake websites and apps to deceive citizens, with a monthly transaction volume of 284.9 million lira. In Samsun, a nine-province operation led to the detention of 13 suspects involved in various schemes, including Telegram-based investment scams, impersonating public officials, and fraudulent loan offers.
