Turkish police raid Buca municipality officials and Barış Boyun crime network

Turkish prosecutors in İzmir appealed the judicial‑control release of 12 suspects detained in a large operation against the Buca municipality. The June 1 raid across six provinces targeted 62 suspects, of whom 54 were detained and 42 subsequently arrested, including Buca Mayor Görkem Duman, former mayor Erhan Kılıç and former CHP district chief Çağdaş Kaya. Investigators allege the municipal administration ran a crime ring, accepting bribes from contractors, misusing credit cards, bank accounts and vehicles, and paying salaries to non‑working “ATM staff”.

In a separate coordinated sweep against the organization linked to imprisoned Italian mob leader Barış Boyun, Turkish law‑enforcement units conducted simultaneous raids on 113 addresses in seven provinces. The operation resulted in the arrest of 45 suspects and the ongoing search for nine fugitives. Among the 54 people detained were six lawyers accused of manipulating judicial processes to protect the network. Authorities claim the group interfered with investigations, threatened witnesses and used legal channels to shield its hierarchy.
