Ekrem İmamoğlu faces corruption allegations in İBB court case

During a court hearing regarding the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), businessman Aziz İhsan Aktaş provided testimony alleging the existence of a structured system designed to finance the political career of Ekrem İmamoğlu.

Aktaş claimed that intermediaries, including İBB Presidential Advisors Ertan Yıldız and İbrahim Bülbüllü, as well as CHP Istanbul Deputy Özgür Karabat, were used to relay money requests. He alleged that businesses were pressured into providing funds by threatening to withhold legitimate progress payments or by threatening to terminate existing contracts.

Specifically, Aktaş testified that during the 2024 local elections, Karabat contacted him to suggest that companies receiving tenders from CHP-led municipalities in Istanbul should provide funds for the election campaign. Aktaş further alleged that he delivered 970,000 USD to a hotel in Kilyos on January 19, 2024, following instructions attributed to İmamoğlu.
