Turkish Red Crescent celebrates 158th anniversary with nationwide activities
The Turkish Red Crescent (Türk Kızılay) is conducting various activities across Turkey to mark its 158th anniversary and Red Crescent Week. In Ankara, the organization opened 'Red Crescent Street' at the Etimesgut Campus, a project designed to provide approximately 30,000 students from over 400 schools with interactive training on disaster awareness, first aid, climate change, and volunteerism.
Red Crescent General President Fatma Meriç Yılmaz announced that the organization's volunteer count has exceeded 500,000. She highlighted the importance of the 'Peer Kindness' campaign and noted that Kızılay clubs are now established in 21,000 schools following a protocol with the Ministry of National Education.
Regional activities include the opening of a dedicated awareness street in Hatay to promote disaster preparedness and environmental consciousness. In Mersin, meetings were held with educators to ensure the organization's humanitarian legacy is passed to future generations. In Erdek, the organization collected 54 units of blood and provided clothing support to 100 students. Additionally, in Balıkesir, female leaders gathered to support the 'Soup Kitchen Project in 81 Provinces' to strengthen local social aid networks.
