Turkish Red Crescent blood drives expand nationwide 2026

Entities: Turkish Red Crescent · Gökhan Aygün · Mustafa Anteplioğlu · Orhan Tavlı

Overview

Following a May Eid al‑Adha donation drive and a June law expanding its authority, the Turkish Red Crescent has intensified its disaster‑response and blood‑collection role throughout 2026. July saw a three‑day mobile drive in Bağcılar, a partnership with Medicana International Samsun Hospital, and a community event at Istanbul’s Atalar Central Mosque offering meals, cash, clothing vouchers and a half‑gold award for reaching a 100‑unit target. The organisation then launched the neighbourhood‑level programme “Mahallenin Gücü Kan Bağışıyla Büyüyor” in Seyhan and Sarıgöl districts, with local governors, muhtars and health officials pledging municipal support and incentives to make regular voluntary donation a civic habit under the new legal framework.

On 30 July the campaign expanded to additional cities. In Küçükçekmece, Istanbul, Kaymakam Mustafa Anteplioğlu visited the Atatürk Park collection point, praised donors, and Deputy Mayor Gökhan Aygün highlighted the social‑responsibility aspect. In Samsun, the “Birbirimize Candan Bağlıyız” drive involved drivers’ unions, NGOs and Governor Orhan Tavlı, who emphasized the continual need for donations. Both sites recorded strong volunteer turnout and processing of blood into red cells, plasma and platelets for multiple patients, underscoring the ongoing effort to embed voluntary blood donation as a regular public‑health practice nationwide.
