Turkish Red Crescent opens new blood donation unit in Sinop

The Turkish Red Crescent (Türk Kızılay) has officially opened the Mehmet Küçükbaş Blood Collection Unit in Sinop, Turkey. Located within Barış Manço Park in the Yeni Mahalle district, the facility serves as the fifth blood collection unit for the Central Black Sea Regional Blood Center.

The unit features four beds and covers an area of 55 square meters. It aims to collect 2,400 units of voluntary blood donations annually. The construction and equipment costs for the center were fully covered by philanthropist Mehmet Küçükbaş.

During the opening ceremony, Turkish Red Crescent Deputy Secretary General Şükrü Can emphasized the importance of blood donation, noting that blood cannot be manufactured and requires constant collection. He stated that blood is collected at 350 points across the country, tested in 18 regional laboratories, and distributed to 1,600 hospitals daily. Sinop Deputy Governor Cevat Gün also spoke at the event, highlighting the institutional importance of the Red Crescent and the value of philanthropic support for the community.
