Local authorities and stakeholders in Turkey are convening to address critical environmental challenges, including climate change, waste management, and water security.

In Kars, the Zero Waste Foundation is scheduled to host a Zero Waste and Climate Change Workshop at Kafkas University on November 5, 2026. The event will feature 15 thematic tables to discuss resource efficiency, sustainable development, and circular economy models. The initiative is part of a broader series of workshops planned for all 81 provinces in Turkey.

In the Büyük Menderes Basin, the Water Basin Council met under the leadership of Aydın Deputy Governor Bilgehan Bayar to establish a roadmap for water resources. Discussions focused on preventing water pollution, combating drought, and reviewing the implementation of 2025 decisions. A specific action plan for Bafa Lake was also addressed to mitigate drought risks.

Additionally, the Union of Coastal Municipalities held its October 2026 assembly in Didim. Didim Mayor Hatice Gençay emphasized the shared responsibility of local governments in protecting coastal ecosystems, managing water resources, and addressing climate change impacts across the Aegean Sea, Bafa Lake, and the Büyük Menderes River.
