Turkey reinstates mandatory school uniform emblems

The Turkish Ministry of National Education has reintroduced the mandatory use of school emblems on student uniforms. This new regulation, published on July 22, aims to enhance security, discipline, and order within schools.

Mustafa Erçin, Vice President of the Turkey School Uniform Manufacturers and Sellers Federation (TOKÜSFED), stated that the move will improve school security and harmony. He noted that the previous policy of plain clothing had caused practical difficulties in the field. Under the new rules, schools can choose their preferred uniform models, provided they do not change them more than once every four years.

From an economic perspective, Erçin highlighted that purchasing ready-made uniforms with pre-sewn emblems is more cost-effective for parents. He noted that buying plain clothing and paying for separate emblems and tailor services can cost an additional 200 to 250 TL, whereas the price difference for ready-made emblazoned items is often as low as 50 TL. The uniform manufacturing sector is reported to be nearly 90 percent prepared for the upcoming academic year, utilizing 100 percent domestic resources.
