Turkey economic data shows service sector leads in employment and enterprise numbers
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released comprehensive economic data for 2025 and 2026. In 2025, Turkey recorded 4,016,059 active enterprises, with the service sector accounting for 48.4% of businesses and 41.2% of total employment. The trade sector led in turnover, contributing 46.8% of the total 124.8 trillion lira turnover, while the manufacturing sector achieved the highest production value at 27.8 trillion lira.
Total employment reached 20,122,817 people. Regarding business size, enterprises with 250 or more employees accounted for 34.3% of turnover, whereas small businesses with 1-9 employees represented 36.4% of total employment.
In terms of price indices, the Service Producer Price Index (H-ÜFE) for July 2026 showed a 3.94% monthly increase and a 32.77% annual increase. The highest annual price growth was observed in transportation and storage at 37.26%. Additionally, the Economic Confidence Index rose by 0.8% in August 2026 to reach 100.6, driven by improvements in consumer and manufacturing confidence.
Retail and shopping mall performance also showed mixed results; the Shopping Mall Square Meter Productivity Index rose 25.2% annually in July 2026, though real productivity declined by approximately 5% when adjusted for inflation.
