Turkish towns advance green roofs and seed recycling
The Tarsus municipality, together with the EU Climate Change Grant Programme and the Tarsus Chamber of Commerce, organised a Green Roof Drafting Workshop attended by officials from Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, Mezitli and Yenişehir municipalities, the Çukurova Development Agency and professional engineering and architecture bodies. Participants discussed the scope and feasibility of a new Green Roof Regulation designed to cut carbon emissions, mitigate urban heat islands, manage storm‑water on site and promote biodiversity.
In Talas, the local council launched the “Every Seed a Seedling” campaign, inviting residents to bring fruit pits to designated collection points such as libraries, parks and the municipal front. The collected seeds will be planted to grow new trees, reducing waste and raising environmental awareness among the community.
