Turkish towns grapple with misoriented traffic signs causing driver penalties

In Keşan, Edirne province, drivers have been repeatedly fined because a "Girişi Olmayan Yol / Dönülmez" traffic sign faces the wrong direction, making it invisible to motorists. Municipal crews cut back tree branches that blocked the sign, but residents say the core problem remains. One citizen asked, "Bir tabelayı düzeltmek bu kadar mı zor?" while a local writer noted that a court later ordered a fine to be paid after an appeal.

In Diyarbakır’s Yenişehir district, the intersection of Gevran, Elazığ and Batıkent roads experiences severe congestion, especially after work hours. Residents and shop owners complain that inadequate signalling and a chaotic layout have turned the junction into a daily bottleneck. A neighbourhood elder remarked, "Bu görüntüler şehrimize yakışmıyor," and urged officials to implement a lasting solution.

Both municipalities acknowledge the need to correct signage and improve traffic flow to reduce fines and alleviate resident frustration.
