Turkey continues enforcement on public order and environment

Entities: Doğa Kuş Bakışı ve Ekoloji Derneği · Fahri Tunç · Murat Kurum · Tuz Gölü

Overview

The multi‑city traffic‑safety and public‑order campaign continued into July, with inspections, fines and outreach in Eskişehir, Trabzon, Tekirdağ and Antalya. A chain‑reaction collision on Hatboyu 2 Street in Eskişehir’s Tepebaşı district injured a driver and passenger, prompting a police investigation.

In the first half of 2026 the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change completed 47,707 inspections of 33,989 facilities, 6,018 vehicles and 7,700 vessels. Enforcement actions targeted 2,436 facilities, 152 vehicles and 33 vessels, issuing administrative fines totalling roughly 2 billion 43 million lira and ordering 222 enterprises to close. Waste‑pollution penalties formed the largest share, followed by water and air violations, with Istanbul accounting for the highest regional fines.

On 18 July, district governor Yunus Emre Temel in Sivrihisar and mayor İhsan Kurnaz in Samsun met local merchants and craftsmen, exchanging views on economic conditions and emphasizing that such feedback guides municipal service planning.

The Ministry also announced a record 12,800 flamingo chicks hatched at Tuz Gölü, the highest number in five years. The lake’s Special Environmental Protection Area status, a 2022 freshwater well and adequate spring rains eliminated the need for supplemental watering. Aerial surveys confirmed the count, and ongoing monitoring also tracks reed warblers, steppe eagles and other threatened species. The ministry highlighted the success as evidence that habitat‑protection measures are effective, while continued observation will follow the fledglings through migration season.
