Turkish towns ramp up mosquito and fly control as summer pests surge
Didim Municipality in Turkey has launched continuous day‑and‑night spraying operations to combat a rise in mosquitoes and other insects during the summer months. Mayor Hatice Gençay said the program targets streets, parks, drainage areas and water‑filled sites across the district to protect residents' health and comfort.
In Bilecik, a severe fly infestation has disrupted daily life and prevented athletes from training at the İstasyon Synthetic Field. Local officials and the municipal veterinary department have been criticised for delayed larvicide applications, prompting calls for urgent, intensified spraying to alleviate the nuisance for both the public and sportspeople.
