Turkish universities launch initiatives for COP31 climate action
Turkish universities are intensifying preparations for COP31, focusing on climate action, green transformation, and academic research.
Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University (KSÜ) recently hosted an event titled “COP31 Volunteering Program: From Campus to Climate Action.” The program emphasized the role of youth in combating climate change and highlighted the career and personal development opportunities provided by the COP31 process. The event addressed the environmental impacts of artificial intelligence and the importance of student involvement in green policies.
Malatya Turgut Özal University is also advancing its COP31 readiness through 12 scientific projects. These initiatives cover sustainable agriculture, climate-resilient cities, and water resource protection. Key areas of focus include using artificial intelligence for decision-making, improving energy efficiency in housing, and implementing smart agriculture to protect apricot production. Additionally, an EU-funded project aims to provide sustainable agriculture training to 1,500 farmers and install solar panels and climate monitoring software in 50 orchards.
