Turkish institutions prepare climate and sustainability projects for COP31

Various Turkish academic institutions and local governments are preparing to showcase sustainability and climate change mitigation projects at the upcoming COP31 conference in Antalya.

Numerous universities have had their research accepted for presentation at the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Pavilion. Notable contributions include Aydın Adnan Menderes University with 18 projects, Atatürk University with 10 thematic projects, Malatya Turgut Özal University with 12 studies, and Ege University with 45 projects. These studies cover diverse fields such as carbon capture, renewable energy, circular economy, sustainable agriculture, and climate-resilient urban design.

On a local government level, Selçuklu Municipality presented its environmental initiatives at a United Nations forum in Geneva. The municipality reported that over 80 percent of its facilities' electricity is supplied by renewable energy, preventing more than 3,086 tons of carbon emissions. Other regional efforts include Bartın University’s focus on flood and water scarcity risks, and Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University’s strategic themes involving food and water security.
