Turkmenistan and Japan expand economic and circular economy cooperation

Turkmenistan and Japan are expanding bilateral cooperation across several sectors, including energy, transport, and the chemical industry. During recent high-level meetings in Ashgabat, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Japan’s State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Kenji Yamada, to discuss strengthening economic ties and multilateral engagement through the Central Asia–Japan Dialogue.

A significant new area of focus is the circular economy. Both nations are exploring the use of Japanese technologies for waste management, recycling, and resource efficiency to support Turkmenistan’s transition to a green economy.

Additionally, President Berdimuhamedov is preparing for the inaugural Central Asia–Republic of Korea summit, where several bilateral agreements regarding investment, infrastructure, and environmental protection are expected to be signed. Domestically, the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers is also working on legislative updates regarding real estate, horse breeding protection, and digital economy initiatives.
