Turkmenistan and Bangladesh hold first political consultations

Turkmenistan and Bangladesh held their first political consultations between their respective foreign ministries in Ashgabat on August 15, 2026. The delegations were led by Turkmenistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Gurbanov and Bangladesh’s Ambassador Nazrul Islam.

The discussions focused on evaluating the current level of diplomatic dialogue and the potential for high-level official visits to expand intergovernmental ties. Both parties expressed a commitment to maintaining regular contact between their foreign ministries and reviewed draft documents to expand the bilateral legal framework for cooperation.

Economic and sectoral cooperation was a primary focus, with officials exploring opportunities to strengthen trade partnerships. Key areas identified for potential growth include the oil and gas sector, transport connectivity, agriculture, and the textile industry. Additionally, the parties discussed fostering ties between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of both nations, as well as enhancing cooperation in culture, education, and tourism.
