Turkmenistan opens new Akhal-Teke equestrian complex in Ashgabat

Turkmenistan has inaugurated the Akhal-Teke Equestrian Complex of the President, a 1,200-seat facility located in the Kopetdag foothills on the outskirts of Ashgabat. The opening ceremony, held on September 29, 2026, was attended by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The event coincided with celebrations for the 35th anniversary of the country's independence.

The complex is designed to provide year-round maintenance and breeding for the Akhal-Teke horse breed using a scientifically based approach. The facility includes cutting-edge laboratories, specialized departments with modern veterinary equipment, and dedicated areas for growing specific dietary crops such as alfalfa, unique carrot varieties, and the traditional ‘Babarap apple tree’.

The project aims to elevate the preservation and global reputation of the purebred Akhal-Teke through systematic physiological study and advanced health monitoring. During the ceremony, an Akhal-Teke horse was presented as a gift to Liu Shuqing of China’s Daqing Huiyou Breeding Co., Ltd.
