Turkmenistan President receives credentials of new German Ambassador

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan received the credentials of the newly appointed German Ambassador, Petra Dachtler, on August 24, 2026. During the meeting, Ambassador Dachtler conveyed greetings from German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

President Berdimuhamedov identified Germany as one of Turkmenistan’s leading partners within the European Union. The leaders discussed expanding cooperation based on mutual respect and equality, particularly within international organizations like the United Nations.

Key areas of focus for bilateral cooperation include international peace, security, environmental protection, climate action, and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. The two nations also emphasized the importance of the Central Asia–Germany format to improve regional development, economic ties, and transport connectivity. Economic cooperation is further supported by the Turkmen-German Working Group on Trade and Economic Cooperation and the German Eastern Business Association.
