Tuscany Allocates €400,000 for Monte Faeta Fire Recovery

A forest fire that raged from 28 April to 2 May on the two slopes of Monte Faeta, straddling the provinces of Lucca and Pisa, devastated hectares of woodland. The Tuscany regional government announced a first‑phase funding package of €400,000 to secure the affected areas, reduce landslide risk and restore the forest ecosystem.

Public assemblies were held in San Giuliano Terme and Lucca, where regional president Eugenio Giani, agriculture and forestry assessor Leonardo Marras, and San Giuliano Terme mayor Matteo Cecchelli (along with other officials) presented the plan. Measures include installing drainage grids, repairing forest roads, replanting native vegetation, and creating protective belts by selective tree cutting. The project also highlights the role of a local artificial lake that supplied water to firefighting helicopters during the blaze, underscoring coordinated efforts among municipalities, the region and state agencies.
