In early August 2026 Italy continued to grapple with forest fires across several regions. On 4 August the Tuscany regional government unveiled a €400,000 first‑phase plan to stabilise the Monte Faeta area after the April‑May blaze, funding drainage grids, road repairs, native re‑planting and protective tree belts, and highlighting the use of a local artificial lake that supplied water to firefighting helicopters. Public assemblies in San Giuliano Terme and Lucca presented the measures, underscoring coordination between municipal, regional and state authorities. The following day, fire crews contained a separate fire on the slopes of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina in Umbria, averting damage to a nearby house. At the same time, a series of ignitions erupted elsewhere: a flare‑up near Vedriano in Reggio Emilia, a fire under a high‑voltage line in Suvereto (Tuscany), a blaze near Pont Canavese, and a deliberately set fire at the protected Lago di Vico reserve in Viterbo. Multi‑agency responses—including ground squads, regional helicopters, a Canadair aircraft and the Carabinieri forestali—extinguished the flames, while authorities announced cleanup operations and stricter enforcement of no‑camping rules in protected areas. On 5 August, the situation intensified. A five‑hectare fire near Vedriano (Canossa) required five crews, a Canadair and a helicopter to combat an 800 m front. In Suvereto, two regional helicopters and eight ground squads tackled flames spreading under a high‑voltage line. The arson‑linked 1,000 m² fire at Lago di Vico was traced to an illegal bivouac and extinguished by park guards, Carabinieri and civil protection. The most severe incident occurred in Firenzuola, Tuscany, where 35 ha of steep forest burned, prompting twenty volunteer squads, two helicopters and a Canadair. A wind‑driven blaze in Rome’s Massimina district threatened woodland but caused no injuries.
