Tuscany allocates funds to support fisheries impacted by Middle East crisis

The Tuscany Region has launched a new FEAMPA funding initiative to support the regional fisheries and aquaculture sectors. The measure aims to assist companies involved in the commercialization and processing of seafood products that have been negatively impacted by rising costs stemming from the crisis in the Middle East.

Following a decision by the European Commission to recognize the situation as an exceptional event, the region is activating targeted compensation under the FEAMPA 2021-2027 program. An initial amount of 238,440 euros, sourced from European, state, and regional funds, has been allocated for the period between February 28 and December 31, 2026. This funding covers vessel outfitting periods and aquaculture business activities.

Pending approval of a new financial plan by the European Commission, the total resources available through this call could increase to approximately 3.5 million euros. Regional President Eugenio Giani described the intervention as a timely measure to support a strategic and identity-defining sector for Tuscany’s coastal territories.
