Tuscany announces 10 million euro natalty support project
Tuscany has unveiled 'Si nasce in Toscana' (Born in Tuscany), a 10 million euro initiative designed to support birth rates and strengthen regional welfare. Announced by Regional President Eugenio Giani, the project aims to address a long-term demographic decline in the region, where annual births have dropped from over 33,000 in 2008 to approximately 20,000 in 2025.
The funding is divided into two distinct parts. Five million euros from regional resources will provide a 500 euro contribution to each new mother, starting in 2027 following the approval of the new regional budget. The remaining five million euros, sourced from the European Social Fund, will be dedicated to supporting working women. These funds will focus on childcare services to help balance work and family life, subject to income criteria and fund regulations.
President Giani stated that the measure is intended to make women feel supported by institutions during motherhood, integrating with existing services such as free nurseries and textbooks.
