Tuscany natality support initiative

Overview

Tuscany has launched ‘Si nasce in Toscana’ (Born in Tuscany), a 10 million euro project aimed at addressing demographic decline. Regional President Eugenio Giani announced the initiative to combat a trend where annual births fell from over 33,000 in 2008 to approximately 20,000 projected for 2025.

The funding is split into two equal parts. Five million euros from regional resources will provide a 500 euro contribution to each new mother starting in 2027. The remaining five million euros, sourced from the European Social Fund, will be dedicated to supporting working women by focusing on childcare services to help balance work and family life, subject to income criteria.
