Italian municipal strike confirmed; Tuscany outlines industry plan

Municipal employees are set to strike on 31 July. Union federations (Fp Cgil, Uil Fp, Csa, Silpol) have reaffirmed the decision to hold the walk‑out despite Mayor Federico Basile’s effort to suspend it, citing a recent labour‑court ruling that upheld the municipality’s handling of horizontal pay‑progression issues. Union leaders stressed that the strike reflects a choice made by the workers themselves.

After a 9 July protest that saw about 5,000 workers demonstrate against de‑industrialisation, Tuscany’s regional president Eugenio Giani presented a five‑point action plan to revitalise the region’s industry. The plan aims to raise manufacturing’s share of regional GDP from 19 % to at least 20 %, improve the use of EU funds, adjust urban‑planning rules to attract investment, strengthen credit access through Fidi Toscana and Sviluppo Toscana, support industrial districts and introduce a regional law to manage industrial crises. CGIL Toscana welcomed the initiative as a constructive step following the strike.
