Tuscany health officials order mosquito control in Livorno and scabies containment at Sesto Fiorentino nursing home

The Regional Health Authority of Tuscany reported a confirmed dengue case at the Infectious Diseases unit of Livorno Hospital. To prevent local transmission, the authority mandated an urgent mosquito‑control operation in the area surrounding the hospital, including Parco Pertini, and a 200‑metre radius around Via Lamarmora. The disinfestation, scheduled for 15 July, will use adulticide and larvicide treatments on public and private premises, with strict safety instructions for residents.

In a separate incident, fourteen cases of scabies were identified at Villa Solaria residential care facility in Sesto Fiorentino. The outbreak affected six elderly residents and eight staff members. Health officials imposed isolation of the affected residents, restricted access to common areas, and initiated a prophylactic treatment program for all occupants and personnel. Ongoing monitoring will continue until the focus is resolved.
