Tuscany officials raise alarms over railway and healthcare services

Local officials and regional representatives in Tuscany are raising alarms over the deterioration of essential public services.

Mayors from the Mugello and Valdisieve areas have petitioned the Prefect of Florence regarding chronic railway issues. They report frequent delays, cancellations, technical failures, and overcrowding. The administrators state that the lack of maintenance and inadequate information pose a social and economic emergency, potentially isolating the territory and impacting students' right to education.

Separately, the Regional Guarantor for Childhood and Adolescence, Stefano Scaramelli, has written to the Minister of Health to defend peripheral maternity wards. Concerns focus on the potential closure or reorganization of birth centers in Campostaggia, La Gruccia, and Nottola. Scaramelli argues that strict adherence to national birth-rate thresholds fails to account for Tuscany’s geography, where reaching alternative hospitals can take significant time, potentially compromising neonatal safety.
