Italy records €57 million in speed‑camera fines in 2025

In 2025 Italian road authorities collected more than €57 million from speed‑limit violations. Tuscany alone generated over €36.7 million from municipalities, plus €8.2 million from the Florence metropolitan area and €12.7 million from provincial administrations. Pisa was the top‑earning province with €8.81 million, followed by Livorno (€1.98 million) and Prato (€0.80 million). The Livorno province’s Piombino municipality led its communes with €1.21 million in fines.

In Umbria, the town of Foligno topped the regional list with €2.69 million, while the Province of Perugia reported just over €0.20 million. Nationally, road fatalities dropped below 3,000 for the first time since 2021, with 2,868 deaths recorded, a 5.3 % decline from 2024. However, total accidents rose 2.2 % to 177,207 and injuries increased 1.7 % to 237,822. Vulnerable road users such as cyclists, e‑bikes and electric scooters saw higher casualty rates, prompting a targeted enforcement campaign in Livorno against illegally modified scooters and monopattini.

The data highlight a mixed picture: growing revenue from speed enforcement and a modest fall in deaths, but a rise in incidents and injuries that policymakers say requires stronger safety measures.
