Tuscany welcomes Palestinian children in solidarity ‘Ponti di Pace’ program
Regional vice‑president Mia Diop and assessor Alessandra Nardini received ten Palestinian children from the Balata refugee camp at Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati in Florence. The visit was organised under the "Ponti di Pace" initiative promoted by the Arci Pisa committee and the Alta Val di Cecina, with participation from local and international representatives such as Arci Pisa president Mario Dimonte and Ibrahim Jamal, vice‑president of the Childhood and Tolerance Centre in Nablus.
The children, hosted in San Giuliano Terme, recounted experiences of war, occupation and lack of basic rights, stating, “Vengono nelle nostre case e ci mandano via.” Diop and Nardini reiterated Tuscany’s intention to recognise the State of Palestine and the Palestinian right to self‑determination, while condemning the Trump‑initiated "Board of Peace" as a breach of international law.
In Modena, the ANPI coordinated a related project that hosted twenty Palestinian youths from Taybeh for a month, supported by local families, the Fondazione di Modena and donations collected through Banca Etica. The Modena effort echoed the same solidarity message and criticism of the "Board of Peace" initiative.
