Tushar Gandhi detained in Mumbai during CJP solidarity protests

Mumbai police detained several activists, including Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, during a series of preventive actions on Saturday. The detentions occurred as individuals attempted to gather at August Kranti Maidan in support of protests organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in Delhi.

Tushar Gandhi, president of Hum Bharat Ke Log, was detained for approximately seven to eight hours. He was moved between the DN Nagar and Borivali police stations before being released. Gandhi characterized the protests as a “no-confidence motion” against the government, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of electoral roll manipulation.

Other activists, including Anjali Damania, were also detained near Shivaji Park. Police officials stated that the gatherings were unauthorized and cited court directives restricting demonstrations at certain historical sites. The crackdown has drawn criticism from opposition leaders, such as Aaditya Thackeray, who accused the ruling party of using police force to suppress peaceful dissent.
