Tuya Smart unveils Doova AI companion robot at IFA

Tuya Smart has unveiled Doova, an AI-powered companion robot designed to assist elderly individuals living alone, at the IFA trade show in Berlin. The device is intended to serve as a conversational partner, daily assistant, and digital caregiver.

Equipped with LDS Lidar, a four-microphone system, and AI-driven posture recognition, Doova can detect emergencies by responding to the command “Hey Tuya, Help”. Once activated, it localizes the sound and navigates the home to notify relatives. Beyond emergency response, the robot can manage medication reminders, appointments, and control smart home devices like lights and curtains via the Tuya AI Home platform.

To address privacy concerns, Tuya Smart stated that voice activation is processed locally, while sensitive patrol videos remain on the device. Users can also utilize physical microphone mutes and define private zones. Doova is scheduled for a global commercial launch in the second quarter of 2027, with Germany identified as a key European market.
