Tuya Smart Doova robot launch

Overview

At IFA 2026 in Berlin, Tuya Smart introduced Doova, an AI-powered mobile companion robot designed to assist seniors living independently. The device utilizes LiDAR navigation, a four-microphone system, and AI vision-based skeletal recognition to monitor user safety.

In emergency situations, the robot can respond to voice commands such as ‘Hey Tuya, help.’ If the user remains unresponsive for 60 seconds, the robot initiates an emergency workflow by sending a two-way live video call alert to family members. Beyond safety monitoring, the robot uses a multimodal large language model to provide emotional companionship through natural conversation, assist with daily tasks like interpreting bills, identify potential scams, and provide medication or schedule reminders. It can also control smart home devices, such as lights and curtains, via the Tuya AI Home platform.

To address privacy concerns regarding the continuous use of microphones and vision systems, Tuya Smart stated that voice activation is processed locally and sensitive patrol videos remain on the device. Users can also utilize physical microphone mutes and define private zones. While currently positioned as a supplement to professional medical alert services, Doova is scheduled for a global commercial launch in the second quarter of 2027, with Germany identified as a key European market.
