Tuzi implements video surveillance to combat illegal waste dumping

The municipality of Tuzi has implemented a new waste management initiative involving the installation of ten surveillance cameras across eight locations. These cameras, which operate 24 hours a day, are positioned near waste containers and at high-risk sites previously identified for illegal dumping of mixed municipal waste. One camera has also been placed at a park playground to ensure space protection.

Managed by the Municipal Police and Inspection Service, the project is part of the ‘TO Zero Waste’ initiative. The primary goals are to improve waste management systems, raise citizen awareness, and foster a cleaner community. Robert Ljekočaj, head of the Municipal Police and Inspection Service, stated that the initial phase focuses on prevention and warnings to allow citizens to adjust to the new system.

Following this preventive period, authorities will begin issuing sanctions. Fines for illegal waste disposal are set at 100 euros for individuals and up to 1,000 euros for legal entities.
