Tarsus Municipality illegal dumping enforcement
Overview
Tarsus Municipality has intensified inspections to combat illegal dumping and environmental pollution through the use of camera traps. These devices monitor sites where excavation waste, rubble, household waste, and furniture are frequently abandoned.
The implementation of this technology has shown measurable results; one location that previously experienced approximately 15 illegal dumping incidents per month has recorded no new incidents in the last five weeks.
Enforcement through administrative fines has increased significantly. Total fines for environmental pollution issued by the municipality reached 5.75 million lira over a three-year period, with a sharp rise from 177,000 lira in 2024 to 4.335 million lira in 2026. Mayor Ali Boltaç noted that while the municipality prefers not to rely solely on penalties, enforcement will continue, emphasizing that citizens must also increase their sensitivity to environmental protection.
