Tuzla Pensioners' Home operates despite inspection ban
The Tuzla Pensioners' Home is currently operating in violation of an inspection ban issued by the Tuzla Canton Inspection Affairs Administration. The administration has temporarily prohibited the facility from performing social welfare activities, a measure that is required to be implemented without delay.
Despite the ban, approximately 100 residents remain at the facility receiving care from staff. This follows a significant reduction in the resident population; prior to a devastating fire that claimed the lives of 17 people, the home housed nearly 190 residents. Since the tragedy, about 60 individuals have been relocated to private care homes with the help of their families.
The remaining residents include many elderly and immobile individuals requiring constant medical and daily support, making relocation difficult. To address the crisis, the home's management is seeking assistance from city authorities. An initiative has been sent to the Tuzla City Council to amend the facility's operating regulations in an attempt to bring its operations back into compliance.
