Tuzla Retirement Home to reduce resident capacity

The Tuzla Retirement Home (Dom penzionera Tuzla) is reducing its number of residents after it was determined that the facility does not meet all required conditions for social welfare activities. One identified deficiency is that the number of residents exceeds the permitted limit. The facility aims to reduce its capacity to 100 residents.

This decision has caused significant distress for families, including the family of a resident with dementia. While the Center for Social Work in Tuzla has offered alternative accommodation in other social welfare institutions, reports indicate that residents have declined these offers. The cantonal ministry stated that the move is not a direct order for displacement but rather a necessity to comply with existing regulations.

This situation follows a fire at the Tuzla Retirement Home last year, which resulted in the deaths of 17 residents. Subsequent analyses of the facility's conditions led to the current decisions regarding operational compliance.
