TVING begins compensation for 39.54 million accounts leaked in data breach

TVING, the online video streaming service operated by CJ ENM, has begun accepting compensation applications for users affected by a massive data breach. The leak, which occurred in May, compromised approximately 39.54 million accounts, including active, dormant, withdrawn, and test accounts. The leaked information includes names, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, connection information (CI), and payment histories.

Starting from October 7 until October 30, affected users can check their eligibility and apply for compensation through the ‘MY’ menu on the TVING app or website. Users who have previously withdrawn from the service must re-register to verify their identity and claim benefits. Compensation cannot be processed through the customer service center.

The compensation package, valued at approximately 20,000 KRW per person, includes several options: one year of free hacking and phishing insurance (covering up to 3 million KRW in damages), three months of premium viewing features (4K quality, 400 downloads, and up to four simultaneous streams), 50 TVING points, or entertainment benefits such as a one-month Wavve subscription or CGV discount coupons. Benefits will be distributed sequentially starting November 6.
