TVR and Digi Sport compete for Romanian handball rights

The Romanian Handball Federation (FRH) is expected to enter a new era of broadcasting for its top-tier leagues starting with the 2026–2027 season. TVR and Digi Sport are currently competing for the rights as the previous contract cycle, spanning 2022 to 2026, approaches its end.

Reports suggest TVR is a strong contender for the rights to broadcast both men’s and women’s first-division matches, as well as the Romanian Cup. Under a potential agreement, up to four league matches per round could be televised on Fridays and Mondays. Meanwhile, Digi Sport is reportedly focused on securing the women’s league rights due to its high viewership.

Valuations for the new broadcasting deal vary significantly across reports, with estimates ranging from approximately 50,000 euros to 500,000 euros per season. No official contract has been signed yet, though Digi Sport will continue to broadcast the Romanian Super Cup this weekend.
