Turkey to launch $3 billion AI-driven vehicle inspection system in 2027

Turkey is preparing to launch a new, high-tech vehicle inspection system starting August 15, 2027. The transition involves a $3 billion investment program to modernize the country's inspection infrastructure over a 20-year period (2027–2047).

TURKA, the entity set to manage these services, recently unveiled an example center in Arnavutköy, Istanbul. This facility will serve as a testing ground for advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence-supported image processing, high-resolution cameras, laser measurement, and robotic systems. The goal is to reduce human error and provide more detailed technical assessments, such as automated tire depth measurement and robotic headlight checks.

The new system plans to establish 352 inspection centers—comprising 249 fixed and 103 mobile units—and approximately 900 inspection lines across 81 provinces. Digital advancements will allow vehicle owners to track the inspection process in real-time and access results digitally. Additionally, the new model aims to include specialized inspections for electric vehicles, focusing on high-voltage safety and battery integrity.
