The lawsuit, filed in the Northern District of California, alleges that the companies have been unlawfully harvesting content from Twitch creators to train Amazon’s generative artificial intelligence models without obtaining explicit consent or providing compensation.

The complaint asserts that the data collection, which reportedly includes live streams, clips, chats, audio, and images, has been occurring since at least 2024. The plaintiffs seek financial damages for affected creators and a court order to halt the unauthorized use of intellectual property for commercial AI development.

The legal action follows Twitch’s recent decision to implement an opt-out policy for AI training. While the platform introduced settings allowing streamers to deny data access, the move has faced criticism for being an opt-out rather than an opt-in system. Amazon and Twitch have not yet issued a public response to the allegations.
