Twitch enables Amazon AI training on creator content by default
Twitch has introduced a new account setting that allows creators to opt out of having their channel content used to train Amazon’s generative AI models. The setting, labeled “Training for Generative AI,” is located within the Security and Privacy tab of user settings.
By default, the setting is enabled for all users. Twitch Chief Product Officer Mike Minton addressed the decision during a livestream, stating, “If it was opt-in, nobody would opt in.” The opt-out mechanism covers streams, videos on demand (VODs), clips, chat messages, images, and text on a user's channel. Notably, chat messages in another user's stream are governed by that specific channel owner's opt-out settings rather than the individual chatter's preferences.
The policy is not retroactive; it only applies to future training and does not affect content already used by Amazon. Additionally, opting out does not disable other AI-driven features on the platform, such as AutoMod or automatic captioning. The move has faced significant backlash from the streaming community regarding transparency and the lack of an opt-in default.
