Two Afghan suspects arrested for deadly minivan arson that killed four farm workers in Amendolara, Italy

Four agricultural laborers were found burned to death inside a minivan at a petrol station in Amendolara, Italy. Surveillance footage from the station showed a driver in a black T‑shirt opening the rear trunk and a passenger in a white T‑shirt breaking the front door handle, trapping the occupants as flames engulfed the vehicle. A fifth passenger escaped with severe burns.

The Public Prosecutor's Office in Castrovillari has placed two men, Ahmed Safeer and Raza Ali, both 31‑year‑olds of Afghan origin residing in Villapiana, under preventive custody on suspicion of multiple homicide. The investigators, led by the mobile squad of Cosenza, identified the suspects from the video recordings and corroborated the identification through a Carabinieri officer present at the scene. The suspects were arrested while still wearing the clothes they had on during the incident. Prosecutors suggest a possible motive linked to tensions over cramped living conditions among the workers, citing a prior violent argument between the victims and one of the suspects.

Both suspects are being held at the Castrovillari detention facility pending further legal proceedings.
