Two Armed Robbers Arrested After Fatal Attack on Motorcyclist in Riau, Indonesia

Police in Pelalawan, Riau, captured two suspects involved in a deadly motorbike robbery that occurred on 29 May 2026. The assailants, identified as BG (34) and AS (36), attacked the brothers Julfan Setia Hulu (21) and Jelvon Hulu (15) with a wooden block and restraining tape, resulting in the victim’s death. The suspects fled to Java but were apprehended on 8 June 2026 in Pandeglang, Banten, after police fired warning shots to subdue them. Alongside the two main culprits, investigators seized a stolen Honda Revo motorcycle, the wooden weapon, tape used to bind the victim, and two additional individuals who had facilitated the sale of the stolen bike. The arrested men have been transferred back to Riau to face charges under Article 480 of the Criminal Code, which carries up to four years imprisonment.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about violent street robbery (begal) in Indonesia’s Sumatra region and the coordinated response of regional police forces to capture perpetrators across provincial borders.
