Two arrested after attempted robbery on off‑duty police in Naples

On 23 January, two off‑duty State Police officers travelling on a vehicle on the Strada STALR 268 near the Sant’Antimo interchange in the Naples metropolitan area were targeted. A Volkswagen Polo rammed their car, stopping it, and the occupants exited, brandishing a large baseball bat and demanding the vehicle.

The robbery attempt failed when the officers resisted; the suspects fled, abandoning their car which contained their identity documents. Investigations by the Napoli Nord prosecutor led to the arrest this morning of two men, both residing in Romani camps on Naples' outer ring. Video surveillance and victim photographs provided evidence, and a search of the suspects' belongings found branded watches, three baseball bats and various breaking‑in tools. A similar incident had occurred minutes earlier at the same location.
