Two arrested for theft of 150 manhole covers in Greece

Two men have been arrested in Greece following a series of thefts involving at least 150 metal storm drain covers. The thefts occurred across the areas of Piraeus, Keratsini, and Drapetsona.

A 38-year-old suspect was caught on video by a citizen while loading a stolen cover into his vehicle. When confronted, the man claimed he worked for the Public Power Corporation (DEI) to justify his actions.

Following a police investigation, authorities raided a scrap metal business in Botanikos. During the raid, police seized 12 stolen covers, the suspect's vehicle, and tools used in the thefts. A 46-year-old man was also arrested at the site for the receipt and disposal of stolen goods; 2,150 euros were seized from his possession. The 38-year-old faces charges of repeated theft and professional theft.
