Two Chilean nationals arrested in 200 million yen watch theft

Two Chilean nationals, 23-year-old Pina Guzman Jeremy Paolo and 33-year-old Manzano Quezada Boris Alexis, have been arrested for a smash-and-grab robbery at a luxury watch shop in Tokyo’s Nakano Broadway.

On August 25, the suspects allegedly smashed a display case and stole four high-end watches—three Richard Mille and one Patek Philippe—valued at approximately 200 million yen ($1.25 million). The entire theft took about 10 seconds. Following the incident, the suspects fled using an electric scooter and foot before traveling by Shinkansen to Osaka.

Police apprehended the duo at a private lodging facility (minpaku) in Osaka. While one stolen watch was recovered during the arrest, three remain missing. Manzano reportedly claimed he intended to sell the watches to take money back to his home country and suggested the other three were lost during their escape. Pina has partially denied involvement, claiming he only stole one watch. Investigators are looking into whether the suspects targeted the shop due to its thin glass displays and whether they had accomplices.
