Two drowning deaths reported in Gironde and Jura, France
A 29‑year‑old man was found dead in a private pool in Sauveterre‑de‑Guyenne, Gironde, on 8 July 2026 after firefighters were unable to revive him. Police and the gendarmerie opened an investigation and an autopsy is planned.
Six days later, on 10 July 2026, the body of a 59‑year‑old swimmer who vanished on 4 July while swimming with his wife in Lake Clairvaux, Jura, was recovered by gendarmerie divers using a high‑resolution sonar. The victim was located 18 metres deep, brought to shore, and his death was confirmed by a medical examiner. Both incidents are being investigated as accidental drownings.
