Two rural deaths in Romania: bear attack suspicion and falling log

A 68‑year‑old man employed at a farm in Covasna County was found dead near a forested area after being missing since Thursday evening. Investigators noted injuries that could indicate a bear attack, and Romanian authorities are preparing a proposal to the European Union to strengthen protection measures for the growing brown bear population.

In Borșa, Maramureș County, a 69‑year‑old man died when a log fell from a wood‑laden truck during unloading. Emergency crews arrived but the injuries were fatal. Police recorded the incident after a 112 call and opened a criminal investigation to determine whether safety regulations were breached during the operation.
