Two Fatal Drownings Reported in France This Week

A 38‑year‑old man died after disappearing while swimming in the lake of Bédanne at Tourville‑la‑Rivière (Seine‑Maritime). He was rescued in cardiac arrest but could not be revived despite the rapid response of 16 firefighters, a water rescue team and a medical helicopter. An 8‑year‑old girl who was with him was pulled from the water by by‑standers, taken to hospital and survived.

The following day, an elderly woman, estimated around 80 years old, drowned on the central beach of La Grande‑Motte near Montpellier. Bystanders called emergency services, and a trained first‑aider arrived via the "Bon Samaritain" app to begin CPR. A medical helicopter from the Samu and fire‑brigade personnel responded, but the woman was declared dead on site. Police opened an investigation and an autopsy was ordered.
