E‑Lok fire at Lehrte rail yard prompts multi‑unit firefighter response

Firefighters from the city of Lehrte responded to several incidents on Wednesday, the most serious being a blaze in an electric locomotive on a siding. The fire, likely caused by a short‑circuit, was monitored with thermal imaging cameras and a drone before the site was handed over to the railway’s emergency manager. Earlier that night the volunteer fire brigade from Ahlten rescued an elderly woman who had fallen in a residential street, and in the early morning a hazardous‑material unit assisted with a dangerous goods incident at the Lehrte marshalling yard. A false alarm at a local business triggered by a convection oven’s smoke and a burning trash bag were also dealt with without injuries.
